General Motors recently announced its plan to become a more eco-friendly company by reaching carbon neutrality by 2040 in both its operations and global products.

The automaker has also joined a call to action and signed onto the Business Ambition Pledge for 1.5⁰C, a global coalition of UN agencies, businesses, and industry leaders that are working to establish a safer, greener world. Additionally, GM has worked with the Environmental Defense Fund to create a plan for an all-electric future. A key component of their vision is eliminating tailpipe emissions from new light-duty vehicles by 2035.

General Motors aims to replace its gas-powered lineup with battery-powered vehicles in order to be carbon neutral by 2040. Electric vehicles will make up 40 percent of its lineup and have 30 EVs available globally across various price ranges and models by the end of 2025. To encourage EV adoption, General Motors and EVgo plan to add over 2,700 fast chargers to the public fast-charging network.

By 2030, GM also plans to use 100 percent renewable energy at its facilities and invest in updating certain sites so they can construct EVs. In the next five years, GM will invest $27 billion in EVs and autonomous vehicles so that more electric vehicles can hit the streets of Grand Prairie, Texas.
