General Motors is expanding its efforts to be environmentally conscious through the manufacturing of efficient vehicles. According to The News Wheel, the American automaker plans to spend $7 billion toward launching 30 all-electric vehicles globally by the end of 2025.

Twenty of those 30 EVs are promised for North America, distributed among the various segments of all GM brands, including Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. One of the first vehicles to arrive fully electrified will be the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. In addition, GM reports 10 other models currently in development including three GMC models, two Buick models, and, most importantly for us at Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, Texas, four new Chevrolet EVs, including an all-electric pickup truck.

Reportedly, GM is relying on Ultium technologies to expedite its development process for its 30 EVs. GM is banking on its Ultium battery packs to deliver a whopping 450 miles of range on a single charge and to lower battery costs by 60 percent, making EVs much more competitive with gas-powered vehicles in terms of pricing.

Why the change? The biggest reason, according to GM Chairwoman and CEO Mary Barra, is climate change: “Climate change is real, and we want to be part of the solution by putting everyone in an electric vehicle. We are transitioning to an all-electric portfolio from a position of strength, and we’re focused on growth. We can accelerate our EV plans because we are rapidly building a competitive advantage in batteries, software, vehicle integration, manufacturing, and customer experience.”
