We know that you want to keep your ride for as long as possible, and with these ten different ways, you’ll have the roadmap for what it takes to avoid having to buy another vehicle sooner than you might want to. Keep reading below for more on these maintenance tips!

What are the top 10 maintenance tips for your truck?

  1. Maintain exterior: It isn’t just the mechanical aspects of your Chevy truck that you need to be concerned about. In order to keep your Silverado or maybe Colorado in the condition you want it in, the exterior needs to be kept as pristine as possible. Things like dust, pollen, bird droppings, and rocks can do a number on the exterior. We recommend regular cleanings as often as you can manage it, and beyond that, wax can work wonders on keeping everything safe and erosion-free.
  2. Fluid level checking: This is the kind of suggestion that will quite literally only take a few minutes, but will make the world of a difference. Key fluids to consider include engine oil, transmission, brakes, and coolant. When any of these fluids are low, it can cause potential damage to your truck. This is especially true with engine oil, as the less engine oil that is available, the more friction that could be happening within the engine itself!
  3. Tire rotation: Are you trying to have your tires wear evenly? Are you annoyed when you have to replace tires sooner than you might want? A trick to this is to keep up with regular tire rotations. What this does is it helps to wear the treads more evenly as they are distributed around the car. You’ll be able to make these tires last longer, and hopefully just replace them all at once, rather than having to replace them more frequently, and in sets of two.
  4. Regular oil changes: While we may have already discussed fluid levels, oil changes are something that deserves a spot all on its own. Engine oil really is that important, and when it comes to your Chevy truck, you do not want to be skipping out on getting the oil changed. This could be happening anywhere from twice a year, or more often, depending on how often you are driving your truck. Clean engine oil helps your engine run more smoothly, and keeps up efficiency.
  5. Swap out air filters: A lesser thought of part of your truck that shouldn’t be ignored is the air filter. This is the kind of small piece to the puzzle that helps prevent things like debris, pollen, dust, and dirt from entering the engine. When this is swapped out often enough, it helps the engine perform better, and keep up with the right combustion. A clogged air filter reduces the amount of clean air that is able to get into the engine.
  6. Radiator inspection: The radiator inside of your pickup truck is working hard to make sure that everything is staying cool. Should the radiator start to fail, then the entire cooling system fails, too. The inability to dissipate heat can cause absolute havoc throughout various systems, but especially the engine. Keeping the radiator running smoothly will ensure that heat is able to effectively be transferred out of the system, and coolant levels remain where they should be.
  7. Windshield wiper changes: We are well aware of the fact that windshield wipers feel like such a small piece to a truck that it should be okay to ignore them for a little longer. We’re here to remind you that being able to see out of your Silverado is a key component to driving. Windshield wipers tend to get streaky as they get older, and you should swap them out as soon as possible to keep everyone safe and secure.
  8. Exterior light check: As we’ve already touched on with windshield wipers, being able to see is reason enough to keep up with your exterior lights. Not only is it important for your headlights to be functioning as they should, but brake lights are incredibly vital for safety when it comes to other vehicles, too! This is something you can even do at home, especially if you have someone else who can check for you.
  9. Tire pressure: Your tires are an important cog in this machine. Damage to tires can cause damage to other components, and it can all snowball from there. Beyond just rotating your tires, you should have the tire pressure checked somewhat regularly. The right numbers should be in your Chevy owner’s manual, but our service technicians can also help with that!
  10. Replace parts: Here at Graff Chevy, you can actually order OEM parts from our service center! This is a great way to make sure that you have parts that aren’t failing on you, especially when it comes to things like rotors, brake pads, and even steering components. We would love to be a part of the reason why your truck is able to last that much longer.
