The 2025 Chevy Suburban introduces a refined second-generation 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel Duramax engine, offering more power for a smoother, more confident driving experience — especially when towing. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this engine is available for the first time across all retail trims, including Z71. Building on its success in the Silverado 1500, the new diesel engine delivers 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of peak torque, marking a 10 percent increase in horsepower and a 7.6 percent boost in torque over the current diesel engine. To achieve this enhanced power, the engine features a retuned turbo compressor, new higher-flow fuel injectors, revised piston-cooling oil jets, new steel pistons, and improved temperature control with Active Thermal Management in the cooling system. At the same time, sound absorption materials and a tuned air induction system help ensure the engine runs smoothly and quietly. For those who prefer gas power, the 5.3L V-8 remains the standard engine on LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier trims, while the 6.2L V-8 is standard on High Country and available on RST, Z71, and Premier.
